Half of wildfires in Oregon could burn into the winter, fire officials said | KOMO

PORTLAND, Ore — Officials said there are 16 wildfires burning in Oregon right now, and eight of those fires may continue to burn into the winter. More than one million acres of land has burned so far, Oregon Governor Kate Brown said. The governor was joined by fire officials in giving an update on the wildfires burning throughout the state. on Friday, she added that 40,000 Oregonians have been evacuated, and 500,000 are in evacuation zones.

A former CIA Intelligence Officer turned astronaut is set to become the first Black woman to join the International Space Station. Jeanette Epps has a doctorate in Aerospace Engineering and joined the the Astronaut Corps in 2009. She is now preparing to join the flight crew for Boeing's new spacecraft, Starliner One. It's still being tested and developed by NASA. NASA astronauts already assigned to the Starliner One Mission welcomed Epps to the crew on Twitter Tuesday.

Wrongful death lawsuit filed against Life Care Center in Kirkland | KOMO

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- The daughter of a woman who reportedly died in early March of suspected COVID-19 at the Life Care Center in Kirkland is suing the company that owns the nursing home for wrongful death and fraud, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in King County Superior Court. The Life Care Center location was the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in early March, where there has since been 129 cases and more than 37 deaths from the virus at the Kirkland location, the lawsuit states.

SAN ANTONIO- Mayor Ron Nirenberg has announced two additional deaths in San Antonio from COVID-19 in a city update Saturday, bringing the total to 11 in Bexar County. Both were men in their 80s. One man was from Southeast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the same nursing home battling the outbreak where 67 residents and 12 staff tested positive for the coronavirus. There are 34 pending staff results from staff members from the nursing home.
