EASTWEST Updates PLAY Software to 2.1.1 Includes Symphonic Choirs “WordBuilder Inside PLAY” upgrade Hollywood, CA (December 30, 2010) – EASTWEST, the industry leader in virtual (software) instruments, has released a significant upgrade of their PLAY software that includes the long awaited SYMPHONIC CHOIRS “WordBuilder Inside PLAY” upgrade. EASTWEST/QUANTUM LEAP’s revolutionary SYMPHONIC CHOIRS is the only software that enables words to be entered into WordBuilder for the choirs to sing, and PLAY 2.1.1 makes SYMPHONIC CHOIRS a whole lot easier to use, with WordBuilder now integrated directly into the PLAY software. No more complex setups, just plug and PLAY! The PLAY 2.1.1 upgrade is FREE for current PLAY users. PLAY users should download the latest version of the PLAY software at For customers using the previous NI version, the upgrade to the PLAY version with WordBuilder inside is $99/€75. NI version users wishing to upgrade should go to - or for European customers and select 'Purchase/Upgrade'. The PLAY 2.1.1 update should be installed by all PLAY users, regardless of which PLAY product(s) they have, as there are other performance and maintenance updates included also.

What's fixed and enhanced in PLAY Software Update v2.1.1?. addition of Integrated Wordbuilder into PLAY for Symphonic Choirs users. updated user manual for Symphonic Choirs including Integrated WordBuilder instructions. improved performance and handling for large Hollywood Strings legato instruments. fixed blank default reverb preset for instruments not saved with a reverb preset. fixed offset Instrument drop-down list for instruments with longer names. fixed graphic keyboard bug when deleting modified instrument.

fixed stuck notes accumulating over time. fixed 'save instrument' dialog box appearing in separate window. fixed possible performance issue with instruments that use note timers (repetitions) HAPPY NEW YEAR!! As one who has been repeatedly driven to the point of madness with Sonar and SC/WB, I was as dizzy with anticipation installing this as I was terrified at some new unforseen problem (I'm by nature conservative with new updates).

I've been testing it and treating it harshly for half an hour, and thus far there's not been the slightest hint of a glitch running in Sonar 8.5.3. Not a single hanging note or dropped consonent in sight! One change in behaviour from the now-legacy version, at least within Sonar, is that it no longer auto-resets the playing position when replaying the project. Arguably this is a good thing, however I'd gotten used to knowing it would behave this way and it's nice and lazy. The way to overcome this is to insert a midi event - CC20 vel 127 in the project at the start of the track.

Ipa for mac. This is a little tedious in Sonar, but the solution there is to just save this single event as a midi file on the desktop. Whenever you load a new WB instance of Play, just drag this midi file onto the midi track at the start of the project, which takes all of 2 seconds, and then Sonar behaves as it always did.

We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us.

And of course it's a real doddle to then copy and paste this to anywhere else in your project if you need further resets. How the interface works (for those curious or nervous) is that there is a Wordbuilder tab on the Player window, next to Main Menu and Settings.

You load up your WB multi in Play as normal, then click on the Wordbuilder tab - the first thing that happens is that a dialog appears asking to insert new instance of WB. Note - if you change your multi from, say, Altos to Tenors, you need to do this again - which means losing your WB phrase, so remember to copy it first then paste it back in.

Within WB itself, it automatically selects the correct program (such as Tenors), so you just insert / type your phrase and away you go. The little Midi In and Out graphics are still there, and are both selected to Play. That's about it - it just works! Thanks EWQL - it has been a VERY long wait, but the early results are very encouraging indeed.

No longer will I break out into a cold sweat just thinking about using it. Let the fun finally begin! Yeah I am very conservative with updates too. Can Wordbuilder be used with the Choirs in Goliath? Pretty sure not so much because the WB only works with MULTI patches from Symphonic Choirs. I think it's marvelous BTW and has breathed new life into a great library. I'm actually going through an EW renaissance of sorts these days using SO Gold PRO XP on my laptop and loving the results.

I think it's easy to get fixated on new libraries and ignore the true value of EW's older libraries because they still bring a lot to the table. That said, I do love Hollywood Strings and Goliath, two purchases made in 2010.:headphones.

Thanks EWQL - it has been a VERY long wait, but the early results are very encouraging indeed. No longer will I break out into a cold sweat just thinking about using it. Let the fun finally begin! I have the Play license but I don't see this word builder button? Didn't have time right off to install it in my studio super computer, so i loaded it in my 6 year old amd64, 2 gig of ddr1 memory computer running sonar 4.04.

Yep, that's right, and it ran great! Didn't really beat the daylights out of it with massive amounts of loaded samples, but for quick sketches it works great on this old box of chips! It seems to be pretty stable. Great Work, EWQL! Now, how about other types of choirs, maybe a jazz ensemble choir, or broadway musical type of choir, choirs with a little less classical sound and more of a group sound, the possibilities are endless!

EWQL: In the e-mail message you sent out there's a line that reads 'New instrument updates are also live for Hollywood Strings, Pianos, and Symphonic Choirs.' A) Did you mean to say that 'updates are also available for.etc. B) I found the new updates for SC, but the last updates for HS and Pianos are from 4-8 weeks ago. Are those the updates you are referring to as 'new', or are there newer ones that I'm missing somehow?.frank I think the updates are all wrapped in the latest installer. In my case it seemed convinced I had HS when I don't, wanting to know which version I have. I just ignored it, didn't seem to matter. This is strange with those not seeing Wordbuilder though.

I just ran the exe, win 32 bit, didn't even rescan the vst in Sonar, everything just worked. Definitely one for support. The only bug I've found, which probably predates this latest update, is G4 / G#4 tenor voxos E sound makes a really loud PING, and have submitted a ticket on this. I downloaded the 2.1.1 update, installed and followed all the instuctions. Rescanned vst's in Sonar.

Loaded up SC Check the about box and it says 2.1.1 but there is no built in Wordbuilder built in? No tab for it as mentioned earlier? Did I miss something? Even reinstalled WB 1.01 but it all works as it use to. Thanks Jeff hi, with 'loading up Sc' did you mean you have loaded a choir sound into play or just opened an empty instance of SC?

If so, you first have to load a choir sound into play and then there should be the wordbuilder button available in the upper left. A question: after I install 2.1.1 Play with the integrated WordBuilder, what happens when I open an old project (in Cubase 4 in my case) that had SC multi and the separate WB?

I mean, does the old WB still works and play the SC tracks as before? Or the integrated new WB can disturb the communications? The non-integrated version is still included. So old projects will still open up just the same. You can transfer your text to the integrated one easily enough by just saving it in WB as a choir file (.cho) and open that up in the integrated WB window. By any chance, does WB now 'follow' your DAW? Or do I still need to insert reset messages?

You still need to insert the reset message (CC20,127 by default - see p. 55 of manual). It works amazing though - I can run SATB with multiple mike settings and a full fledged template of SO (platinum plus, w multiple mikes as well), all natively inside of Sibelius. RAM is hovering around 9 GB - but it's holding on. It's almost surreal. I feel like I'm conducting a full fledged orchestra and choir. Ha le lO yia indeed!:headbang.

You still need to insert the reset message (CC20,127 by default - see p. 55 of manual).

Make sure you are using the new Symphonic Choirs manual that describes how to use the integrated WordBuilder. The description of setting CC20 (or whatever ever you change it to) is now found on page 59, not page 55. I added lots of significant changes, including taking out all the text and images that no longer apply. I was told by EastWest that when you install the PLAY 2.1.1 update, the new Symphonic Choirs manual is supposed to be installed in your Documentation folder on your hard Drive.

And on Friday we discussed making a link to the new manual available on the Choirs product page at www.soundsonline.com, but I don't see it there yet. If you cannot find a copy of the new manual, make sure you ask Customer Support how to get it. I was told by EastWest that when you install the PLAY 2.1.1 update, the new Symphonic Choirs manual is supposed to be installed in your Documentation folder on your hard Drive. John The manual was indeed installed on my Mac, John, when I did the installation/updates last Friday, I've printed it and am about half way through reading it, so it looks as if the information you were given is indeed correct. I've noted numerous (and important) changes already, and as usual, you did an amazing job writing the document. Explanations are very clear, and well presented.

Highly recommended reading, and as a bonus, the photo of Doug taken a few years ago has been replaced by the more recent photo of him in which he is wearing his sunglasses.:) So find the photo, and you'll know you have the latest version of the manual. I was seriously about to give up on SC play. It wouldnt work in FL after i clicked the insert button, no sound. Standalone worked but sounded ridiculous with stuck notes and other stuff. After i completely uninstalled play (had two versions, latest and the beta word builder release i think) plus the vota expansion add-on and updates, and then reinstalled everything except the library/samples all is great now. Word builder sounds tight!!! I bought SC back in 2005 and found out it wouldnt work in FL, i was pissed.

Then later found there was a way but was a hassle and it f'd up my creative process so i never used it. 5 years later??? Stop slippin east west yall better then that ya dig:) im hella happy i can finally mess with it without getting frustrated maybe my post will help some one with similar problems thanks:singer2. Ya'll must of done some serious tweakin on WB because, and maybe its just me, but when i type in a word, the word that's sung seems to be smoother, you know, no vowels or cons too loud, too soft, no cut offs blasting too loud, etc. Which leads me to believe they really polished some things. I'm really enjoying this program now!

Great work EWQL! I wonder if there is something inherent in using midi as an insert effect that makes it error prone. It would be interesting to hear from one of those here who fixed this release up to hear what the challenges were.

With all of the talk about stock market manipulation, derivative fraud, and the imminent collapse of the global economic s I enjoyed this book first as an economics student in my undergraduate college course of study. Logically I can see if everything is in one place, that must minimise the chances of data going haywire. Used SC in a sorta heroic trailer piece yesterday, totally trouble-free except for my G4 / G#4 voxos E glitch. That's a pretty annoying loud ping there. For anyone curious, you can hear how it turned out here (without the ping!) - http://www.box.net/shared/mmej9puxei. Great work EWQL! There was a lot of work required to make this work, it started out as a simple idea (as all ideas do), then we ran into one problem after another. In retrospect, we should have charged an upgrade fee for PLAY users also given our development cost, but we made a committment to our users early on and had to eat it in the end!:( A special thanks to the beta team also, which included many forum members, they worked tirelessly for many months as we resolved the remaining issues, we salute you!:singer2: Cheers, - DR. Yes Doug, that way not a piece of cake for your developers, in particular due to cake-walk specificities (it was apparently hard to make it work within Sonar, and as I'm myself a developer I know that it's not easy to be sure that a software works in many configurations). That's a big improvement, technically and also for the EW reputation. Several customers (included myself) were disappointed due to incompatibility or instability with some hosts, and now this is behind us! So thanks to all the involved EW team!

In retrospect, we should have charged an upgrade fee for PLAY users also given our development cost, but we made a committment to our users early on and had to eat it in the end!:(Much appreciated Doug. I was expecting to pay for this release, but you have surprised me, and I feel you have demonstrated that EastWest does care about its customers. Also, many thanks for the reduced price of MoR2 for Hard Core Bass users such as me.

Let us hope that the criticisms of the past couple of years are now behind us. Really, we all want EastWest to be the champion of sample libraries. Good luck to you, and I hope that 2011 will be a special year for you all at EastWest.:). Make sure you are using the new Symphonic Choirs manual that describes how to use the integrated WordBuilder. John Thanks John - I checked again, and it does install automatically (well I didn't download any manual separately). It is page 59 indeed. Somewhat related to the reset command, is there a way to place 'sync markers' in the wordbuilder file, such that for longer projects a midi command from the DAW will automatically direct wordbuilder to start not from the beginning but from the marker? Especially for longer projects that would be a great time saver, it is a pain to have to play back from the beginning every time to tweak the last 20 seconds of a 5 minute score.

The ideal situation would be to have your DAW fully synced to the DAW in real time, but I suppose that is hard if not impossible to realize yet. This would be a good practical workaround.

Ps not to be too picky but the manual refers to 'September 2010' as release date - that should be December 2010 (September is when beta testing started? Or maybe even earlier). Thanks John - I checked again, and it does install automatically (well I didn't download any manual separately). It is page 59 indeed. I haven't used my choirs with WB in quite a while, but there is something you can do to have WB review everything and then is will stay sync'd. You can rewind a bit or ff and it will follow. I forgot the thing you click on to accomplish that. Doug pointed that out to me over a year ago in a thread.

You may have to play the whole piece for the process to take hold. Hope I'm remembering this much correctly.
